This is all about having compassion for other persons (homo sapiens and/or others) in future generations in the light of what we now know about the natural history of our planet and our species' so far.
In light of the fact that our planet has existed for apx. 4.6 billion years and in light of the fact that as far as we can tell life has existed here for at least 1/2 of that time and has managed to get along just fine without us, and in light of the fact that humans, in one form or another, have been around for at least 4 million years (and apparently 7 million now), and in light of the wonderfully pristine environment we've inherited from our ancestors, my compassion also extends to those life forms (plants, bugs, homo sapiens and other animals) which might still be living on this planet 4 million years from now. 
    So, I seek ways to learn more about and help take care of this world so that others may have the chance to experience life here also and life "more abundantly" just as I have.
