My "What's Up?" section is the central location where
I
announce additions or changes at Every Fork
in the Road dot org. It's also kinda like a journal of thoughts and/or
events having to do with me and my life (some might refer to it as a Blog [which
is short for Web Log]).
This is the history page of "What was Up in 2004". That basically means
that I simply cut the 2004 "What's Up" announcements out of the main "What's Up" page and pasted them
here in case anyone ever gets curious about what's been up in the past.
To
join my "What's Up?" mailing list, please see my notes about it at the bottom
of this page.
[As with the main "What's Up" page, the most recent entry will be at the top in this format:
yyyymmdd_HHmm and
possibly even ss if appropriate]

Holy crap! It sure has been a long time since I've added anything new
here.
Well, this night is special. It's Thanksgiving, the national holiday in
the USA when everyone is supposed to get together and be thankful. Hmmm.
This night, I felt more like a male Black Widow spider getting tricked
into being a meal for the female this time around. I don't know. Like I
told the host of the party, maybe I'm just too immature or whatever, but
I just really don't like getting picked on like that.
I'm not comfortable with situations in which people try to tell me what
to eat, what I'll like, what kind of music I must appreciate or like or
enjoy or any other form of control. The really odd thing is that I
actually did like the song that was their final tool of oppression, even
though they kept talking about how I didn't like it, or didn't
'appreciate' it and other nonsense comments.
Ya know, I'm just really not into all that.
The really disappointing thing though is the fact that I actually really
enjoyed hanging out with pretty much all of the other guests that were
there tonight....even the host's sister, who was said to be such a
problem and was talked down to me prior to her arrival to the point that
I actually fell for it with no prior experience with this person.
Interesting. The one person I could relate to the most (and the one
person I've related to the most for a very long damn time) was the one
person I wasn't supposed to like or enjoy being around. Hmm. I wonder if
our tendency to 'jive' together pissed off the host or something.
Obviously I'm lost here. I'm grasping at the wind trying to figure out
what this person went off on me like they did tonight. I mean really....
at one point, I actually said that I was really glad to be spending the
evening hanging out with people (a whole group of people) that I'd
really like to hang out with again.
The diversity did not keep me from having a good time and getting to
know people.... rather, it was this one person (that probably couldn't
handle my willingness to interact with [and genuinely enjoy being in
community with] any/every soul) that ruined it. I ended up leaving
early. I didn't feel comfortable hanging around taking that kind of
abuse any longer.
I know it's not always the best way to deal with situations, but it was
their house. I couldn't very easily say, "I'm uncomfortable with the way
you're treating me. Your attitude toward me and the way you're talking
to me are ruining the atmosphere of friendship that has been brewing all
night between the rest of us and I'd like you to leave now". So, I
walked out.
Host.... I genuinely and truly wish you well.
Others I met tonight.... I genuinely and truly hope to see you again.

Yep, I'm still here. I've just been so busy with so many things that I haven't
spent much time on my site for a while. Today I added some thoughts about
something said to me in a discussion group recently. I placed it in my "Odd
Sayings" section. Here's
the link.
20040910
Today I added a page about the recent Listerine commercial in which they
claim that it is as effective as flossing.
Here's the link.
20040825
Today I added a page to my "Critical Thinking Field Notes" called
"Fault-Finding". It's about the difference between fault-finding,
nagging and critical thinking. Some people have these all confused with
each other.
This page is an attempt to set the record straight.
20040824
Today I added a page to my "Other Thoughts" section called "Is God the
only Source of Love?" It is basically a response to something in a
conversation with a friend about the nature of unconditional love. I
think it's quite interesting. What do you think about unconditional
love?
Check out this page and let me know your ideas as well.

Here's another edition to my "What's Wrong in this Image" section.
the link.
20040808
Today, I added something to the "Things I Don't Like" portion of my
"About Me" section. This one's about being
interrupted.
20040801
Today I added another entry to my "Odd Sayings" page. It's about a
phrase I recently saw on a tube of medicine. Here's the
link.

Is it really Harder to Believe than not to? That's the question brought to
my mind by a song I used to really like. Here's
the link to my thoughts on this one.
20040509
Today I took some of the pages which used to be on my "Critical
Thinking" page and put them on a new page, "other Thoughts on
Life". I thought I might like it better that way. Not that these particular
pages are not effected by thinking critically, but because they are not
necessarily dealing with that particular issue quite as directly (in so many
words) as are the ones that I left there.
The new "other Thoughts" section is mainly going to
be about some of my thoughts about things in life in general; like love,
compassion, relationships, personal and social psychology and sociology etc. Here's
the link...

Today I finally added a section for my photos and videos from some of my Back-Roading
adventures as well as those of other people. I haven't yet uploaded anything to
that section, but I will soon. Here's
the link...

Today I decided to add a new section to my "Odd Sayings" section
called "Redundant Redundancies". The first one I posted there is
something I heard in a used car commercial on TV recently. Here's
the link.
20040324
Today I added two more items to my new "What's Wrong in this Image?"
section. Once again, here's
the link.

I've finally started putting more photographs on this site. Today I started with
a brand new section called "What's Wrong in this Image?" I think the
first one is an instant classic. Here's
the link.

Here's something from the "Darwin Day" page that I had up here for a
while around that time (Feb. 12) this year. For a few days, I had it set as the
home page on this site. This was my greeting and a "blessing" of sorts
from that version of the page...
|
"
This is my 1st annual Holiday (Holy-Day)
blessing for all who enter here...
Well, some of us survived another year. From the mindless religious
rituals or the codependent infighting of our dysfunctional families of origin to the
flaming anti-intellectualism rampant in our culture, neither the arrogance
of cynicism nor the darkness of belief have managed to extinguish our light.
I invite you to think critically today, and every day for the rest of this
year too. I encourage you to seek out and study something (anything...
whatever you're interested in). I hope that you are well and that all is
well with you.

Ya...I know it's a repeat from below, but oh well....it's my web site. So, in
honor of critical thinking and compassion, I hereby bless the freakin hell out
of you for giving a damn. ;-)

If you can't see what's wrong with this
statement, please send me an e-mail.

I added a page on the topic of "Addiction".
I've looked at it, studied it, learned about it, been there and done it, figured it out and beat it, helped people deal with and get out of it, and just basically thought about it a great deal for many years. I have a lot to say about it and now I finally have
a place where I can share some of my thoughts about
it.
20040128_2010-27
Today I added a few things to my "Odd Sayings" page. They include a
couple of redundant blunders; "Deja vu all over
again", "against the
law" and one good reason for us to be taking a closer look at the
airline industry now days; "if you can't read
this...".

Mailing List = What's Up at Every Fork in the Road?
If you want to get on this list and be notified when I add new stuff, just send
an e-mail to [WhatsUp -AT- EveryForkInTheRoad -DOT- org]
with the following text in the subject, "EFitR_List_What's Up? Request To
Join". Also, please tell me (in the body of your e-mail) who you are and
what your interest is in hearing about updates on my website (One sentence is sufficient
if you're willing to share, but you do not have to tell me anything to join the
list if you would prefer to remain anonymous).
When you receive "What's Up?" messages from me
(usually no more than two per month, and occasionally none for a couple months
at a time depending on how busy I am at the task of updating my website), they
will have the following text in the subject line, "EFitR_List_What's
Up?". If I decide to change that subject text, I'll first try to remember
to send you a notice with the original subject in it and tell you about the
change before I actually implement it. Also, it will come to you from the
address [WhatsUp -at- EveryForkInTheRoad -dot- org].
So, it should be obvious when you receive them that they're coming from this
site.
