Our Internal Support team provides a variety

and network support services to a mixture of staff and
students in work units within ITS as well as clients external
to ITS, such as the university's Office of International
Education (otherwise known as OIE). We also support the
student, instructor and server computing systems in the ITS
Smart Classroom Stadium 350. |
| How long have you worked at
ITS? |
2 years, 8 months. Since the beginning of
May 2001. |
| Where were you
before? |
Similarly self-employed in
Minnesota. |
| Some of the biggest
challenges in your job: |
[NOTE: This is not a big issue. It's not even
the most challenging thing, but when I tried to think of
challenges, this is just something that came to my
mind.]
Working with people when they are frantic,
crabby, or harsh. Of course this isn't just difficult for me,
but you asked. I know that it's usually not even "a personal
thing" at all. Nevertheless, it does kind of tend to take the
wind out of my sails.
I learn best in an environment of patience
and genuine kindness (not just putting on the happy face and
being 'nice.') High expectations are always welcomed as long
as they are also reasonable ones. I so much want to interact
in a healthy way with my fellow ITS employees. Please let me
know if there are ways I can interact more healthily with
you. |
| Some of your biggest
accomplishments at ITS: |
Helping the Office of International Education
bring their IT experience into the 21st century. Over the
winter holiday period of 2002-2003, we replaced their server
and upgraded them from Windows NT to Windows 2000. This
involved migrating files, folders, shares, services, NTFS
permissions, user accounts, user profiles, and other various
settings from a Windows NT 4.0 domain to the ITS Windows 2000
Active Directory. During that same holiday period we also
replaced all of their networking equipment (hubs, switches,
and yes, we even upgraded them with CAT5 cables all over their
office).
In the second half of 2003, we began the
process of creating and rolling out a new OS build for their
workstations.
As a result of our team's help, they now
finally have 100mbps network connections, a nice, new Dell
server and a pretty good, relatively secure and much more
stable and robust OS and application build for their
workstations. |
| Where were you
born? |
St. Paul, Minnesota |
| Hobbies |
Critical thinking, learning, nature and
science related research and activities (specifically
Evolutionary Psychology, Sociobiology, Anthropology,
Paleontology, Geology), hiking, climbing, backroading,
photography |
| What are you most proud
of/accomplishments outside of work? |
I think my greatest personal satisfaction
comes from seeing the degree to which I continue to learn and
grow and mature as a person over the years. I don't
necessarily claim to have achieved any great amount of growth
or maturity, but I'm excited about whatever ways it takes
place in my life, great or small. Focusing on the level of
growth and maturity isn't really the point though. For me,
it's all about the desire to learn and grow and mature. As
long as I still have the desire to learn and grow and mature,
I am confident that I will. |
