Sandi, the Fossil Journey Cruiser:
a Boulder Sandstorm at Every Fork in the Road

Two Sandstorms (robsp222 & ocr14a) on the Switzerland Trail (20080504)

We met at Vic's on 30th in Boulder.

Ok, so perhaps this occasion is another example of me taking too many photos

(AND cutting out too few prior to posting),

but oh well ...  ;)  it's your choice to view or not...

I love Boulder. There are so may cool places to go hiking, rock-climbing and off-roading; including right over there...

That's Rob.

Here we are at the little off-shoot - look-out area just down a bit from the Sugarloaf intersection.

A couple of real beauties.

If you've been on the Switzerland Trail up near Sugarloaf (or if you've looked around here on Sandi's site very much),
you're probably familiar wiht this little obstacle.

It's not extreme or anything like that, but it is ~30 degrees; and it's clearly not just a ramp.
So, it's a fun spot to go up and down a few times just for practice by taking different lines each time if nothing else.

I actually recorded both of us doing this on this occasion. I will update this page once I've added those videos. For now,
here's Sandi going back down (always more treacherous in my book because of the potential for drop-down damage).

Here's a look at the inclinometer while in the present pose.

Here's Sandi going up.
This time, it's with real tires.

...and here's robsp222 going up the same spot
(with the factory, flat-tread street tires).

Here's another look at the inclinometer on another spot. This is a slant-wall on the stretch from Sunset up to Gold Hill.
Sorry, I forgot to get out and get a pic of Sandi doing this. I'll get one up here sometime soon.

Just look at that scenery   ...oh, and the trees, mountains and blue sky too.  ;)

Mountains in the Indian Peaks Wilderness off in the distance.

This is kinda funny.
It's a spot that I've always wanted to drive up,
but never thought I could.
Now that I have Sandi, I see how stupid it is. Haha.
Oh well. It's still always fun to do stuff like this with a friend. :)

We went to the right this time. Perhaps we'll check out the camping spot up the hill next time around.

It was cool to be able to get down this portion of the trail again (North from Gold Hill Rd.);
I haven't been here for a while (first time with Sandi).

Due to the snow pack, I usually wait till later in the season to go this far.

Ok, it's no big deal, but we were having fun with it anyway.
Here's Rob going over a section of snow covering the trail pretty well...

Really, the trickiest obstacle that day was trying to figure out how to avoid the free pin striping services all over the place.
-hehehe

Well, that's it for now.
Like I said, I'll update this page once I have the videos from this trip uploaded (probably YouTube links).
