As some of you already know, my username on the FJ forum (OCR14a) stands for Ouray County Road 14a.
It's a place we've spent a lot of time over the years. This year, we helped some friends find a camp site here.

Actually, we helped two sets of friends. This day was our Paleo buddies.
In anticipation of their arrival, JammerGirl and I too a ride on OCR14a earlier in the day to scout out the spots.

After the OCR14a scouting event, we headed out into the shale-lands for a little paleo investigation.

While out in the field, I decided to look South toward Ouray to see what it looked like.
Here is the Sneffels range with storminess all-about.
It was very nice that we didn't really have any of that stuff during the Summit the following week.
This view was still beautiful, nonetheless.

This is an irrigation canal (OK, I don't really know what it's for) out in the shale-lands.

I love this shot. It reminds me of another place I like to go fossil hunting out East.

Here's a look out into the area of paleontological interest we investigated this day.

Our friendss arrived, and we escorted them to one of our favorite little spots on OCR14a

Here's Steve setting up the pop-up ....no, seriously....I don't see a single beer in the photo.   :-)  :-)  :-)

Here's Jasmine, supervising the camp-building enterprise

Meanwhile, Annie is playing the smart card; reading one of her many books
(DANGER!! ...someone that enjoys learning and knows how to think for her self)

Looks like home base is just about ready (nothing to see here....move along).

While we were hanging out around the camp fire that night, we had the pleasure of watching the moon rise.

Of course, I have to do something artsy with it...

Campsite... free.

Firewood... relatively cheap.

Gas for the road trip... cheaper than last summer.

Sitting around the camp fire with friends and watching the moon rise over the mountains... priceless.

Interesting.... while we were all sitting there, chatting, blah, blah, blah, I heard something about a pie in the fire.
I looked and saw what Annie (remember, the smart one?) was talking about.

Here's the 'no-flash' view around the fire...

...and here's the flash version.     You decide.

Blankets and jackets??...in Colorado in July?!??
Well, yes. Actually, it gets hot during the day, but actually cools down quite a bit at night (especially at 7,792 feet)

OK, I gotta devote one more to just the fire...

Well, OK, maybe just one more...

What a great time. We used to hang out more in years past, and this was a really nice treat.
Eventually, I'll upload some stuff from the next day; hanging out in the San Juans.
