On our way up the Million Dollar Highway to the trailhead

The little sign below the main trailhead sign may seem a bit ironic to some, but it's a point worth mentioning...

Bridge, schmridge. Who needs a frickin bridge?

We didn't know it when we set out, but this ended up being a volunteer trail work event.
After a little reconnaissance mission by FJinCO,
we learned that this fork in the road is a completely inappropriate trail feature.
So, we blocked it with a nice, little log or two.

We spent some time trying to get ARMY_CRUISER up the crazy obstacle,
but as with most others that we've seen attempt it (including the All-Pro rig on 42s)
it was just a bit too wet to get it done this time. It still looked pretty badass though.

At one point, I stayed back to get some photos of this and that (I don't even recall why I originally stopped),
and then I saw this down in the valley... the other guys heading up to the wall...

Oh yeah....this is what I wanted to shoot...

...and this

Here we are at the 'Winch Wall'...

It was a little too wet to just easily drive up it.
So, we decided that ARMY_CRUISER would winch up it and go ahead to scout out the rest of the trail.
It's so nice when there's a big, flashing, neon sign right there to show us where to connect to...

Once he got far enough with the winch, he was able to drive through the rest of it...

While we were waiting for ARMY_CRUISER and FJinCO-pilot to scout out the trail beyond the wall, I discovered astronomy.
Here is FJinCO's Titanium Metallic rig with the 'Big Dipper' in the background...

I don't exactly know which constellations were visible on this side of the sky, but what a nice view...

This is one of my favorite photos I've ever taken of Sandi.
I've often considered getting a plant/tree scene of some sort painted or wrapped on her.

on our way back down

Oh yeah....flowers, 24 hours a day around here...

Here's a video compilation I put together from a couple hours of video that I recorded that night...

That's it for the first day of the 2012 FJ Summit.

Side note:
I took way, way, way more photos than what I have displayed on these pages.
if you were on a trail run with me, and want to see if you're in there anywhere,
or if you're just curious about the rest of our trip,
please feel free to download the 'BULK' sets of full resolution images from each day.
They are available
here.
Just download the zip file/s for whichever day/s you are interested in, extract them, and have at it.

See some of the good times for Thursday on the next page -->
