Friday, July 22nd, 2011  -  Poughkeepsie Gulch - to the Wall  |  to the Lake

It started out as a beautiful day in Ouray; very encouraging for our Poughkeepsie Gulch trail run ahead.




 

We met up at the hot springs pool, and here we are rolling through town, on our way to the trailhead.




 

You see....beautiful




 

It's completely optional, of course, but there are a few little play spots along the way.



 

We stopped for a couple minutes to check out the avalanche deposition zone down in the canyon below




 

another play spot....this one is right at the turn where Poughkeepsie Gulch starts,
and we peeled off from Mineral Creek trail









 

It's also right where the big mud pit is...

making our way up the trail

and we were more than happy to oblige...

This is the often 'dried up creek bed' (which hasn't been dry the past couple of years)

When Mark (Metal Tech) came along, we let him go by.
We certainly weren't in a hurry, and they seemed like they were eatin up the trail...




 

Still quite a bit of snow up there in some spots. I bet it won't be anything like that in 2012.




 

How many FJ Cruisers can you pick out in this scene?
There  are  at  least  4

 

This is a little waterfall-across-the-trail spot that seems to be getting worse (or better, depending on your interests) each year.
You have to pick your line carefully to stay on the rocks and avoid going off into the brush and harming the surrounding vegetation.
