| Supposed Necessitating Factors at Every Fork in the Road |
This page will list articles in which I discuss various necessitating factors
for the existence of God (or of whatever the unknowable thing happens to be in
that particular discussion or whatever).
By "necessitating factors", I mean something that is claimed to be proof of the
existence of some unknowable thing. This is sort of what people are doing also
when they claim that all the evil in the world proves that there must be a
devil....or conversely that there must not be a God. Obviously to anyone using
critical thinking, there are some very unwise and clearly unnecessary leaps
going on in this kind of thinking. Also, there is most usually some sort of
circular argument involved somewhere along the way.
an Example
Here is an example I use in one of the articles below to explain how a
necessitating factor (love) is used in a circular argument trying to prove the
existence of God.
Here it is in slow motion.....
1. An unsubstantiated claim for the existence of a person or power outside of
knowable reality
I claim that God exists, but I have no proof.
2. Introduction of a necessitating factor
I claim that some thought, concept, feeling or other thing could only be
produced by God.
3. The circular argument comes full circle
I claim that the existence of the thing in step 2 is proof of the existence of
God since there's no other way for it to come about without God having
been in existence in the first place.
Hopefully you can see right through that kind of thinking too.
Some of these articles were
specifically written with the intent that they would be part of this section of
my web site. Others are simply part of some other section which happens to deal
with this issue at some point within the article. The ones that are directly
created for this section originally are marked with a red letter o after the
title (if I recall to do this when it comes time).
Is
God the only Source of Love?
