Tuesday, July 20th, 2010 - Uncomphagre Peak Summit Attempt with Jared (4RnrJ) on 2010 FJ Summit Eve

That's Uncompahgre Peak in the distance.
If you look very carefully, you can see Jared (a tiny white dot in this image)
right at about the middle of this photo, near the top of the green area on the slope.

He's a barefoot runner (see the book 'Born to Run' for more details), and in better shape than either of us.
So, when we go for a hike with him, we always know he'll be out ahead, and we'll just catch up later.

Thought I was kidding?

OK, it's not totally bare feet, but it's about as close as it gets. He runs in these things that are pretty much a
rubber sock (I wanted to say 'bootie', but I'm not sure if that's the right spelling, and sounds a bit odd too).  :)

Here you can see a couple hikers that we're catching....near where the trail disappears into the grass.

looking East

Once we got this close to the peak, we started seeing people ascending and descending the Southern slope.
This series of photos gets in closer so you can see them...

two dots near the middle of the slope....they're going up
We think Jared is the lower one in these photos

here you can also start to see the heads of a few others above them (they're on their way down)

here they all met on their way past each other

While we sat for a bit (JammerGirl massaging my foot....thanks a bunch), watching the hikers ascend the peak,
we also caught sight of this moose...

seemed kinda young.....or maybe just a female.....kinda far away

yep, the wild flowers are crazy up this high too

Which way is the water flowing?

I can't say why, but there were horses up there too

I love checking out the moraines and semi-active rock glaciers.....this seems to be a mix of both

Oh ya.....flowers...

back at the trailhead

looked like someone had a bad day on the trail...
of course, it could also have just been them emptying out their dirty water tank or something like that

the Aspen forests in these parts are on our vacation list for sometime during fall color season

Our side-trip to Gunnison and Crested Butte is next  ---> here <---
